The Southern spirit was on full display this April 3 as the university celebrated its 10th annual Day of Caring, and the results were nothing short of remarkable. In one day, the Southern community came together to raise $866,761 from a record-breaking 2,001 donors. This total marks the second-highest amount ever raised on a Day of Caring.
“During these challenging financial times and economic uncertainty, more people gave than ever before,” said Interim President Dwayne Smith in an email to the campus community. “This isn’t just a milestone—it’s a movement. Every gift, every challenge, every act of generosity added up to something historic.”
The Numbers Tell a Powerful Story:
- We raised $866,761, which is our second-highest total to date.
- A record 2,001 donors gave.
- 261 student donors contributed over $9,000, both all-time highs.
- Donations came in from 40 states with an average gift amount of $433.
“The results reflect the inspiration and strength of the Southern community,” said Michael Kingan, vice president for institutional advancement. “We are intellectually curious and thoughtful. We are creative problem-solvers and drivers of economic growth. We are artists, teachers, computer scientists, athletes, entrepreneurs, health care professionals, and so much more.”
