Future Innovators Take Center Stage at Southern’s STEM Symposium

More than 150 local high school students explored real-world science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers at Southern Connecticut State University during the third annual STEM Symposium, held at the Adanti Student Center on Nov. 21, 2025.

The event was co-hosted by Junior Achievement of Southwest New England, Young Women In Bio-CT, and Southern’s Innovation Hub. The goal? To spark curiosity, deepen interest, and build career confidence in the next generation of STEM leaders.

Through hands-on breakout sessions, interactive learning labs, and a dynamic keynote panel, students from schools across the region connected classroom learning to potential career paths.

For Frishta Rasuli, a student from New Haven’s Hillhouse High School, the symposium opened new possibilities: “I believe this is going to help us with finding our new path for careers or finding what we’re interested in,” she said. “It’s a very good opportunity.”

Brooklynne Holloway, from Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School in New Haven, echoed that sentiment: “I really like hands-on activities, and it helps me understand things more.”

Now in its third year, the STEM Symposium continues to grow in impact — emphasizing not only education and workforce readiness, but also the importance of equity and representation in STEM fields. Through Southern’s ongoing partnership with mission-driven organizations and industry professionals, students are gaining early access to the inspiration, mentorship, and tools they need to thrive.
