A team comprising educators and students from Project Blue at Southern recently participated in the Arctic Frontiers 2024 conference held in Tromsø, Norway. The team conducted a workshop titled “Innovations for Policy Makers: Pathing Ways for a Sustainable and Just Blue Economy.”
Graduate Assistant Noelle King and professors Scott Graves and C. Patrick Heidkamp represented Southern during these conversations.
“Attending Arctic Frontiers and helping run a workshop more than 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle was a transformative experience for me as a graduate student,” said King. “The workshop was vital to my personal and professional growth, and attending sessions discussing topics such as supporting youth, stakeholder engagement, and gender equality in the Blue Economy introduced me to perspectives that will shape my master’s thesis.”
Those involved in Project Blue define themselves as stewards of our planet pursuing opportunities for knowledge and value creation in a sustainable Blue Economy by connecting researchers, entrepreneurs, the business community, and non-governmental and governmental affiliates.
Looking ahead, Project Blue is excited about further collaboration and expansion of the ArcBlue project, which aims to foster sustainable economic development within marine sectors across Alaska, Greenland, and Northern Norway.
