In a significant move for Connecticut’s child welfare, Governor Ned Lamont has announced his decision to nominate a seasoned professional with deep roots in social work and a longstanding commitment to children’s well-being.
Jodi Hill-Lilly, ’88, M.S.W. ’94, would serve as commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) when the 2024 regular session of the Connecticut General Assembly begins in February.
Hill-Lilly obtained both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from Southern Connecticut State University. She is also a former board member of Southern’s Alumni Association. Click here to see an interview with Hill-Lilly.
With a career at DCF that dates back to 1988, she presently serves as the Deputy Commissioner of Administration, a role she has been in since 2019.
“Good leaders listen, they learn, and they remain teachable,” Hill-Lilly said in a statement released by the Governor’s Office. “In this world of child welfare and well-being, that means taking to heart the lived experiences of our kids, our families, and our communities, and keeping our promise to remain accountable as we strive to serve their unique needs.”
“Jodi will be able to seamlessly transition into the role of commissioner, and I thank her for agreeing to step into this leadership position,” Lamont said.
