Dr. Isabel Logan Recognized for Police Social Work Model

Dr. Isabel Logan, associate professor in the Department of Social Work at Southern Connecticut State University, has been honored with the Conceptual Article of the Year award by the Journal of Social Work Education. The award recognizes her team’s groundbreaking work on the SWLE Project Integrative Model on Police Social Work — a new framework for embedding social workers within public safety and crisis‑response systems.

The honor was conferred during the 2025 Annual Program Meeting of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The awarded article, Preparing Social Workers for Emerging Roles in Police Social Work,” outlines how social work competencies and trauma‑informed, justice‑oriented practices can reshape law enforcement interactions and strengthen community support systems.

Co-authored by Logan, Robert Madden (University of Saint Joseph), and Matthew Solak (Willimantic Police Department), the article draws from real-world field placements and emphasizes the importance of ethical training, trust-building, and interprofessional collaboration.

The SWLE Project continues to position Southern as a national leader in police social work education, combining academic research with practical impact across disciplines.
