Southern Connecticut State University launched the first Books & Breakfast event of the academic year at Barack H. Obama Magnet University School (BOMUS), bringing university students, faculty, and staff together with local fourth graders for a morning of shared reading, storytelling, and connection over breakfast.
This collaborative monthly literacy initiative, a joint effort between SCSU and BOMUS, is designed to foster a love of reading, support school attendance, and strengthen family-friendly community engagement. The October 20 session marked the first of three gatherings this fall, with future events planned for Grades 3 and 2.
As Dean Christopher Trombly of the College of Education noted, the program provides younger students with tangible role models while offering SCSU students an opportunity to engage with the community in a deeply personal way.
