National Conference to Spotlight Evolving Role of Social Work in Policing

The SWLE Project’s Fourth Annual National Conference on Police Social Work, “Emerging Practices in Police Social Work,” is set to bring together professionals, researchers, and changemakers from across the country to explore the evolving intersection of law enforcement and social work from Wednesday, May 27 – Friday, May 29 at Southern Connecticut State University.

This year’s event features over 25 dynamic sessions and workshops covering cutting-edge topics such as trauma-informed policing, co-responder models, community collaboration, peer support, post-traumatic growth, and data-driven care.

Keynote speaker Jared Buchanan, ‘22, a Marine veteran, suicide prevention advocate, and ultramarathon runner, will open the conference with an inspiring message rooted in lived experience and existential psychotherapy. Jared, who lost his father, Officer Paul S. Buchanan, to suicide, has made it his mission to raise awareness around suicide prevention and post-traumatic growth, particularly among police officers and veterans.
