A Shared Key to Success

Afghani refugee Mohammad Sharif Kakar recently completed an associate degree at Gateway Community College and is now studying accounting at Southern. Buddy Toth graduated from Southern in May with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling, and shortly afterwards accepted a posthumous degree from Gateway on behalf of his mother, who passed away last September.

In spite of their different backgrounds, the two men share an important ingredient in their respective academic successes, and they sat down with Connecticut Public Radio’s Diane Orson for a conversation about what inspires them to learn.
