Social Justice and Anti-Racism Grants Available to University Community

The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the DEI Advisory Council have announced the availability of social justice and anti-racism grants for the 2022-2023 academic year. These grants will be available to support projects of many different types that demonstrate a value of equity, diversity, a climate of inclusion, environmental racial justice, and anti-racism, to name a few.

Grants are available to support creative/scholarly activities, events, and initiatives related to social justice and anti-racism. All members of the SCSU community are welcome to apply, including faculty, staff and students. Interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaborations are encouraged.

Applications will be accepted beginning July 1, 2022, and continue on a rolling basis until funds are depleted.

Esteban Garcia, associate bursar, who chairs the subcommittee on the DEI Advisory Council that oversees the grant program, says, “The grants are a tool to engage the campus community in the work of achieving our vision of Advancing Southern Towards a Social Justice & Anti-Racist University. My hope is that these funds will encourage collaboration between students, faculty, and staff.”

Examples of fundable activities include:

  • Interactive workshops
  • Panel and small-group discussions
  • Research conducted by faculty, graduate students and/or undergraduates
  • Social media and video projects
  • Events and programs
  • Honoraria for guest speakers
  • Pilot projects demonstrating or testing feasibility for SCSU

There is a total of $9,000 available to be awarded in the amounts between $500 up to a max of $2500. Applicants will be considered only for the monetary category to which they apply. It is the responsibility of the applicant to verify and demonstrate that requested grant funds will adhere to SCSU policies for general operating funds, and then to manage all purchases in compliance with all university procedures. Grants funds may not be used to purchase electronics.
