Dr. Braxton Carrigan, a professor of mathematics, has been appointed interim associate dean for the liberal arts in the College of Arts and Sciences.
Carrigan brings a strong record of academic leadership, institutional service, and data-informed decision-making to this role. As a professor of mathematics, he directed the Mathematical Puzzle Program (MAPP), an innovative initiative that brings hundreds of area high school students to campus each year to work in teams to solve complex problems. As director of the Liberal Education Program (LEP), he successfully navigated complex advising and transfer processes, led efforts to revise the LEP, and helped advance strategic initiatives across the university. His experience working with institutional data and using it to inform decisions will be particularly valuable as he supports enrollment management, course scheduling, and other college-wide priorities.
Dr. Craig Hlavac, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said, “Dr. Carrigan’s collaborative approach and deep understanding of the university’s structure and constituents position him well to serve as a trusted partner to department chairs and faculty across the liberal arts disciplines. His ability to integrate analytical insight with practical problem-solving will be an asset as he steps into this important leadership role.”
Carrigan holds a bachelor’s degree from Samford University and a Ph.D. from Auburn University. His appointment is effective immediately.
