Southern Connecticut State University’s Cheer and Dance teams earned a fourth-place national finish at the UCA/UDA Cheer and Dance National Championships, held Jan. 16–19, 2026, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Competing together in the highly competitive Open Spirit Gameday division, the teams showcased their athleticism, precision, and school spirit on one of the sport’s biggest stages. The 2026 result marks a step forward for the program, improving on last year’s historic fifth-place finish in the same division — the program’s first-ever appearance at the national level.
Southern narrowly missed a national title, finishing just a few points behind perennial powerhouse Long Island University, and solidified its place among the top programs in the country.
