LaShante James, ’04, MS ’14, Named Connecticut High School Assistant Principal of the Year

LaShante James, ’04, MS ’14, assistant principal of Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Conn., has been chosen as the 2025 High School Assistant Principal of the Year by the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS).

James formerly served on the SCSU Alumni Association Board of Directors and is the former president of the Board.

“I am honored to receive this prestigious award and to represent educational leaders across Connecticut on a national platform,” said James. “Having the support of the Norwalk Public Schools community and receiving this acknowledgment is a reflection of the collective work for our students, and I am so grateful to bring this award home to Norwalk, Brien McMahon High School, and Southern Connecticut State University communities.”

In her letter announcing James’ award, Karen Packtor, deputy executive director of CAS, said, “This award is a testament to your unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and tireless commitment to the well-being and success of every member of your school community.”

James has been with Norwalk Public Schools since 2016, contributing significantly to the district through various leadership roles. She is the District Facilitator for the My Sister’s Keeper program, the Dedicated CT RISE Administrator, and the Supervising Administrator for Social Studies, Art, and Music at Brien McMahon. Additionally, James has been active on numerous equity, inclusion, and enrichment committees.

As a National Association of Secondary School Principals member since 2023, James was also a 2024 CAS High School Assistant Principal of the Year nominee. Her latest recognition qualifies her for the National High School Assistant Principal of the Year Award.
