Evening Childcare Hours Available to Student Parents

Student parents now have greater access to childcare support with the introduction of Compass Evening Child Watch, an extension of services at the COMPASS Drop-in Childcare and Family Resource Center. This new initiative offers extended hours, providing much-needed flexibility for graduate and undergraduate student parents as they navigate the demands of academics, work, and family life.

Designed to ease the challenges of balancing multiple responsibilities, Compass Evening Child Watch ensures that student parents can stay focused on their educational and professional goals while knowing their children are in a safe and supportive environment. The expansion reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive campus for all students.

  • Expanded Hours: Monday–Thursday, 4:45 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
  • Eligibility: Open to children of graduate and undergraduate students, ages 5–12.
  • Enrollment Information: Complete registration to get started.

Daytime drop-off childcare hours will continue to be available, ensuring comprehensive support for our student parents throughout the day and evening.

The COMPASS program provides a range of critically needed services with a focus on students with financial need, including single parents. At the national level, more than one in five college students are raising children while attending school — and 53 percent of those have a child under age 6.

Launched in spring 2023, COMPASS is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) Program. An additional contribution comes through a Southern graduate’s bequest.
