Cross Country Teams Leading the Way to Nationals

Athletes on both the women’s and men’s cross country teams are preparing for the NCAA Division II National Championship hosted by Missouri Southern State University on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Mo.

The Owls are coming off a sweep of both the Northeast-10 Conference Championship and the NCAA East Regional Championships, a repeat of last season for the men’s program and a first for women’s cross country.

Southern Connecticut men’s cross country won its second-straight NCAA Division II East Regional on Nov. 4 as they placed five student-athletes in the top 11 to defeat Roberts Wesleyan, 32-42. Southern led at each marker but led Roberts Wesleyan and Franklin Pierce for the duration of the race.

That same day, the women’s cross country team won the 2023 NCAA Division II East Regional, capturing its first title in program history.
