New Opportunities for Sport Management Students

SCSU Sport Management students will have direct and exclusive access to internships and entry-level job opportunities, thanks to a new partnership between Southern’s Sport Management Program and the Fastlane Communications Sports & Entertainment Practice.

Chris Faust, founder and CEO of Fastlane Communications, Inc., and Dr. Kevin T. McGinniss, assistant professor and director of sport management at Southern, announced the strategic initiative, which will also provide students with direct access to Fastlane Communications’ Sport Business Institute (SBI, a Fastlane Co.). The SBI provides sport business education programs, networking opportunities, and consulting services for students who are pursuing a variety of careers in the sports industry.

Founded in 2006, Fastlane is an award-winning, full-service branding, digital marketing, and strategic communications agency that partners with its clients to identify their unique brand challenges, pain points, differentiation and core values to significantly expand their brand(s).

“Many of the executives at Fastlane have been fortunate to have had some incredible advisors, mentors, coaches and fellow colleagues, enabling them to better navigate and advance in their professional careers. At Fastlane, we in turn take that same knowledge-sharing and open learning approach as part of our multi-disciplined internship program,” said Faust.

Southern’s Sport Management Program prepares students for positions within all sectors of the sport industry, including professional sport organizations, intercollegiate athletics departments, interscholastic sports, sport facility management, and more.

This strategic alliance builds on Fastlane’s recent acquisitions of Nexus Licensing Group, Basketball Promotions, Bruno Sports, and the Sport Business Institute. Fastlane continues to add specialized services in sports marketing under one agency umbrella. Fastlane is also leveraging its marketing expertise to promote the emerging Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program.

“We are thrilled to enter into this partnership with Fastlane Communications and their sports and entertainment Practice,” said McGinniss. “It will provide our students with invaluable experiences and opportunities as they embark on their careers in the world of sport.”
