Soft Skills and Hard Hats

Among his various activities to promote the School of Business’s MBA program, MBA Recruiter Mark Zampino offers a series of free soft skills seminars featuring communications-based themes to Connecticut organizations with employees who may be considering pursuing an MBA. The sessions include a brief “infomercial” on Southern’s MBA program while examining evergreen topics such as “Business Communications Do’s and Don’ts,” “The Secrets of Effective Public Speaking,” and “Connecting the Dots: True Networking.”

So far, various chambers of commerce, professional associations, civic clubs, professional service firms, and other businesses have taken Zampino up on the SCSU offer. He has also presented to the university’s Women’s Leadership Program, the SCSU Veterans Association, and the Accounting Department’s Capstone program.

One of Zampino’s recent stops included Nucor Steel Connecticut. “The takeaways from Mark’s session included comments such as “Good lessons on appropriate business communication,’ ‘Thank you for bringing Mark and his valuable communication lessons in,’ and even ‘I am a recent business school graduate who is considering an MBA, and I will be taking a look at Southern,’” said Jon Rowley, operations manager at the Wallingford location of America’s largest steel company. For part of his Nucor visit, Zampino suited up in a complete safety outfit (see accompanying photo), including hard hat. If your organization is interested in booking a visit from Zampino, email him at zampinom1@southernct.edu or call him at (203) 392-5163.
