Hartford Courant Highlights Dr. Sandra Bulmer’s Connection to SCSU Students

Southern Connecticut State University Interim President Sandra Bulmer was recently featured in the Hartford Courant, where she reflected on how her own college journey mirrors that of many Southern students today.

A first-generation college graduate who worked her way through school, Bulmer understands the challenges faced by the nearly 50% of Southern students who are also first-generation. “It feels natural for me to lead Southern,” she shared, noting that her background and experiences fuel her commitment to supporting students’ success.

Bulmer has extensive experience in higher education, including 26 years at Southern, and began her new role as interim president on July 1, 2025. She previously served as the dean of the university’s College of Health and Human Services and as a professor in Southern’s Department of Public Health.
