Smiles were endless as students from transition programs across Connecticut gathered at Southern Connecticut State University for a Glow Party designed to foster socialization, confidence, and fun.
The evening, organized by Krissy Adanti-Pedersen, ’95, of East Haven High School, brought together students ages 18 to 22 with special abilities from East Haven, Amity, Wallingford, Hamden, Southington, Branford, and North Branford.
“A lot of kids aren’t social or don’t want to talk a lot,” said Adanti-Pedersen. “They come to an event like this, the music is playing, there’s so much going on, that they can’t help but get involved.”
Southern has long been a partner in supporting transition academies, providing students with vocational, social, and independent living experiences to help them bridge the gap between high school and adulthood. Events like the Glow Party offer a setting where students can strengthen their communication skills while simply enjoying the moment.
“I like having fun and meeting new friends,” said Nicholas, an East Haven High School graduate.
For Jonathan, also from East Haven, the night was about more than just dancing—it was about expression. “Dancing is an art, and I’m an amazing artist,” he said.
