Brandon Hutchinson, associate professor of English at Southern Connecticut State University, recently joined Connecticut Public Radio’s Disrupted to help explore the enduring legacy of the Harlem Renaissance.
The episode, originally aired in December 2024 and re-released in April 2025, took a deep dive into the social, artistic, and cultural contributions of the Harlem Renaissance, a movement that reshaped American arts and identity in the 1920s and beyond.
Hutchinson, who also serves as affiliate faculty in Women’s and Gender Studies and co-coordinator of the Africana Studies Program at Southern, discussed how the Harlem Renaissance continues to influence contemporary literature and the importance of highlighting underrepresented voices.
Hutchinson was joined by former students Jonah Craggett and John Guillemette in a conversation on how her teachings shaped their understanding of Black literature and culture.
