History is often shaped by those who write it — but what happens when key figures are left out?
Dr. Siobhan Carter-David, a historian at Southern Connecticut State University, is working to change that. As a scholar of fashion, politics, and the Black experience, Carter-David recently participated in New Haven’s first Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, an initiative aimed at expanding and correcting historical entries on Black women.
The event, hosted at Stetson Branch Library, was part of a national effort by AfroCrowd and the Juneteenth Coalition of Greater New Haven to make history more accessible. Participants worked together to research and update entries, ensuring that unsung Black women’s contributions are preserved for future generations.
