Student Awarded Prestigious National Puerto Rican Day Parade Scholarship

Christopher Rosario, ’25, a business administration student with a concentration in marketing, has been awarded the prestigious National Puerto Rican Day Parade (NPRDP) 2024 Scholarship. This significant recognition highlights his exemplary achievements and unwavering commitment to his community.

One of only 100 recipients nationwide, Rosario stands out as the sole awardee from Connecticut. This honor underscores his outstanding academic performance and dedication to making a positive impact within his community.

“When I received the scholarship, I was thrilled, and the interview process only heightened my excitement,” said Rosario. “This achievement is a dream come true and has affirmed my identity as a proud Puerto Rican.”

As part of the scholarship, Rosario received a $2,000 award and participated in a virtual enrichment program that included sessions on Puerto Rican history. He also marched in the 67th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade on June 9 in New York City. These opportunities celebrated the accomplishments of scholarship recipients, providing a platform to honor their dedication and hard work.

“My experiences at Southern have fostered a growth mindset in me, along with grit and determination,” said Rosario. “As a Presidential Ambassador at Southern, I have developed strong leadership skills. While balancing my role as a Universal Banker at M&T, I make a positive impact on my customers’ lives. I have always been active in my community, and through my work at school, at the bank, and in my personal time with the YMCA, I continuously support and advocate for my community.”
