Alumnus Recognized as a “Distinguished Modern Classroom Educator”

A math teacher in New Haven, who happens to be a Southern graduate, is leading the way in an innovative teaching method. Joey Lombardi, ’20, who teaches precalculus at High School in the Community, was recently named a distinguished modern classroom educator by nonprofit initiative The Modern Classrooms Project. Lombardi, who graduated from Southern in 2020 with a B.A. in mathematics, was recognized for implementing a pedagogical model based on students’ individual, self-paced learning.

An article in the New Haven Register explores Lombardi’s teaching method and how well it’s working for his students.
