President Joe in the Community

One of President Joe Bertolino’s favorite roles at Southern is to frequently check in with the city’s management teams (CMTs) in New Haven. He believes that it is especially important to keep the university’s alliances with its New Haven partners tightly knit, given Southern’s close ties with New Haven Public Schools and the shared community fight against COVID-19.

With the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020, Bertolino’s ability to connect with New Haven’s CMTs was curtailed, but he has begun to reengage; the New Haven Independent recently published an article about Bertolino’s virtual meeting with 25 Dixwell neighborhood CMTs. Bertolino used the meeting to update those in attendance about what’s been happening on campus and to emphasize the university’s role as a partner with city organizations and neighborhoods.
