Transgender Athletes: Justice in Sports and Entertainment

** Note:  In light of recent developments on this fast-moving topic, the forum, “Transgender Athletes: A Discussion of Justice in Sports and Entertainment,” will be postponed to allow Southern and the Connecticut Bar Association to dedicate additional time and resources to the program, and prepare a more comprehensive presentation. We apologize for the delay, but we hope to have information soon on a new date.

Connecticut has recently been at the center of a controversy over whether transgender athletes should be allowed to participate in sports based on their gender identity, and the issue is now cropping up across the country. On April 29, 2021, from 5-6:30 p.m., the SCSU Department of Recreation, Tourism, & Sport Management and the Connecticut Bar Association Sports & Entertainment Section will present a virtual panel discussion that will delve into the pending Connecticut case (Soule Et Al v. CT Association of Schools Et Al), as well as recent legislation passed in various states regarding transgender athletes.

The program, “Transgender Athletes: A Discussion on Justice in Sports & Entertainment,” will also explore other considerations that factor into promoting justice for transgender athletes.

Speakers will include:

  • Felice Duffy, Duffy Law, LLC
  • Dr. Donna Lopiano, President of Sports Management Resources; Adjunct Professor at SCSU
  • Dr. Kevin McGinniss, Director of Sport Management Program at SCSU
  • Professor Robert Romano, Assistant Professor of Sport Management at St. John’s University
  • Bianca Scherr, Moderator

This is a virtual event. Register here to receive the link.
