New Nurses, Nurse Educators Graduate from Southern Amid Statewide Shortage

As Connecticut continues to face a critical nursing shortage, new nurses and nurse educators are stepping into the workforce following Southern Connecticut State University’s Winter 2025 Nursing Pinning Ceremony, held on December 9, 2025.

Dozens of students from Southern’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), Three-Year BSN, and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Nurse Educator programs celebrated the milestone, marking their transition from students to healthcare professionals.

Graduate Kchreadoyl Alindato said hands-on clinical experiences reinforced her calling to nursing, while Joey Dessino shared he left a decade-long career in education to help address the growing need for healthcare workers.

According to a 2020 report from Gov. Ned Lamont’s office, Connecticut will need nearly 3,000 new registered nurses each year to meet demand. Southern’s newest graduates now enter the field ready to serve patients and strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce.
